Crosner Legal has filed a class action lawsuit in federal court in Illinois against an industry leading manufacturer of consumer home appliances, alleging that certain steam-cleaning devices contain a dangerous defect that can cause overheating and the unexpected discharge of scalding hot water, posing a serious burn risk to consumers. The lawsuit seeks relief on behalf of individuals who purchased the recalled products.

The complaint alleges the company continued to manufacture, market, and sell the devices despite knowledge of numerous incident reports and consumer injuries. According to the filing, the defect has been linked to a substantial number of reported incidents, including multiple burn injuries. The lawsuit further claims that, following a recall, consumers were not offered refunds or replacements, but instead were required to request and install a repair kit themselves.

Plaintiff contends that the recall remedy is inadequate because it does not address the underlying defect, leaves consumers without use of the product for an extended period, and improperly shifts the burden of resolving a safety issue onto purchasers. The lawsuit also alleges that consumers would not have purchased the devices or would have paid less, had they been aware of the defect.

Why This Matters: Consumers rely on manufacturers to ensure that household products are safe and function as intended. When companies allegedly fail to disclose known safety risks or provide meaningful remedies, consumers may be left with unsafe products and limited recourse. This lawsuit aims to recover damages for affected purchasers and hold the manufacturer accountable.
