We are pleased to announce that Crosner Legal, in partnership with the Law Offices of Todd Friedman, has been appointed as interim class counsel in a significant class action lawsuit against The Kraft Heinz Company and Kraft Heinz Ingredients Corp. This appointment was granted by the Honorable Mary M. Rowland of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on June 18, 2024.
The lawsuit, filed by plaintiff David Hayes on behalf of himself and others similarly situated, alleges that Kraft Heinz misled consumers by labeling their macaroni and cheese products as containing “no artificial preservatives” when, in fact, they contain synthetic preservatives such as sodium phosphate, citric acid and sodium triphosphate. These preservatives are alleged to be chemically produced and used to extend the shelf life of food products by preventing microbial growth and lipid oxidation.
On June 18, 2024, Judge Mary M. Rowland held a hearing on the plaintiff’s motion to appoint interim class counsel. The court granted the motion, appointing Crosner Legal and the Law Offices of Todd Friedman as interim class counsel under Rule 23(g)(3). This decision underscores the court’s confidence in our ability to effectively represent the interests of the class.
Next Steps
As interim class counsel, Crosner Legal and the Law Offices of Todd Friedman will continue to advocate for the rights of consumers affected by Kraft Heinz’s misleading labeling practices. We will work diligently to ensure that all class members receive fair compensation and that Kraft Heinz is held accountable for its actions.
