Crosner Legal Files Class Action Over Misleading “Stem Cell” and “Age Defying” Claims on Shampoo Products

Crosner Legal has filed a class action lawsuit in the Superior Court of California, County of Sonoma, against a beauty and personal care company, alleging deceptive advertising and misrepresentation in the marketing of its shampoo products.

According to the lawsuit, the products are marketed as containing “Argan Stem Cells” that provide “Age Defying” benefits, with labels claiming that “PhytoCellTec Argan Stem Cells support vitality for stronger strands with less breakage.” The packaging also highlights “Nature’s Intelligence Fruit Stem Cell Science,” which conveys the impression that the shampoos contain live plant stem cells capable of delivering rejuvenating effects for hair and skin.

The complaint alleges, however, that the shampoos do not contain live stem cells at all. Instead, they contain only dead plant cell material that has no biological effect on human skin or hair. Experts cited in the complaint explain that plant stem cells cannot survive the manufacturing process, cannot remain active in a cosmetic product, and, even if alive, could not interact with human cells to provide the “Age Defying” results promised. The lawsuit describes the stem cell claims as “patently false” and designed to exploit consumers’ lack of specialized knowledge in cell biology.

By advertising these products as though they contained active stem cells with restorative properties, the company allegedly misled consumers into paying a premium for shampoos that do not perform as advertised. The lawsuit brings claims under California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act and Unfair Competition Law, seeking injunctive relief, corrective disclosures, and restitution for consumers who purchased the mislabeled products.

Crosner Legal stresses that parents, families, and everyday consumers rely on clear and accurate product labeling, particularly when it involves claims about advanced technology or science-based benefits. Misleading “stem cell” marketing undermines consumer trust and distorts fair competition in the personal care industry.

If you purchased shampoo products labeled as containing plant “stem cells” with “Age Defying” effects and later learned they did not contain live, active stem cells, you may have legal rights. Contact Crosner Legal for a free and confidential case evaluation.
