Crosner Legal has filed a class action lawsuit in California state court alleging that a sales intelligence company unlawfully collected, published, and sold Colorado residents’ personal cell phone numbers without their consent. The lawsuit seeks relief on behalf of individuals whose phone numbers were allegedly included in the company’s business prospecting database and made available to paying subscribers.
According to the complaint, the company operates a business-to-business sales platform that allows users to search for individuals by name, employer, job title, location, and other identifying information. The lawsuit alleges that users can access personal contact information, including direct-dial mobile phone numbers, through subscription services designed to assist sales and marketing professionals in identifying potential leads.
The filing further alleges that the company compiled personal information from a variety of sources and included consumers’ cell phone numbers in its searchable database without obtaining affirmative consent. According to the complaint, affected individuals were often unaware that their personal contact information had been collected, listed, and sold through the platform.
The lawsuit contends that the alleged publication and commercialization of personal cell phone numbers exposes consumers to unwanted solicitations, telemarketing calls, scams, and other privacy-related harms. Plaintiff alleges that these practices violate Colorado laws that prohibit listing cell phone numbers in a directory for commercial purposes without the owner’s permission.
Why This Matters: As businesses increasingly rely on data-driven sales tools, consumers may have little visibility into how their personal information is collected and used. When companies allegedly profit from publishing private contact information without consent, individuals may lose control over their data and face increased privacy risks. This lawsuit seeks to protect consumer privacy rights and hold companies accountable for the alleged unauthorized sale of personal information.
